Discovery Labs are hands-on STEM workshops designed for elementary-age students and neurodiverse learners. In a single one-hour session, students move through several short, tactile activities — building, testing, and experimenting their way through real science concepts. No lectures, no worksheets: just curiosity, materials in hand, and the kind of "wait, let me try that again" moments that make science stick.
Every activity is adaptable to different learning styles, paces, and sensory needs, so that STEM isn't something a child tries once and forgets — it's something they connect with.
Kids don't just hear about density or flight — they build a barge, launch a projectile, and see the science happen in their own hands. Hands-on, project-based learning is what turns abstract concepts into lasting understanding.
Sessions are structured for elementary students and adapted for neurodiverse kids — flexible pacing, clear steps, sensory-aware setups, and multiple ways to engage with each activity.
Short, varied activities keep young attention spans engaged and send kids home asking questions — the spark that early STEM exposure is meant to light.
STEM isn't a niche in Georgia's economy- it's the foundation of it. According to Science for Georgia, STEM supports 61 percent of jobs, 71 percent of economic output, and 66 percent of the state's GDP. And the opportunity is still growing: a report compiled by the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network found that STEM careers in Georgia are projected to grow 13% over the next decade, compared with 8% for non-STEM jobs.*

But access to early, hands-on STEM is deeply uneven. Children spend more than 80 percent of their time outside of formal classroom learning, which makes out-of-school programs essential to closing the gap, yet the demand far outstrips supply. That same report estimates that nearly 600,000 more young people in Georgia would take part in an afterschool program if one were available to them. *

Who it's for
Discovery Labs are designed for elementary-age students and neurodiverse learners of varying abilities. Whether it's a classroom, an afterschool group, a library program, or a community organization, we adapt each session to the group in front of us.
Format
Sessions run about one hour and combine several short activities. We come to you, in person where we can reach you, or run sessions virtually depending on location.
Will this cost anything?
While we happily accept donations (which are tax deductible, by the way), these sessions will be delivered free of charge, subject to availability/location/etc.
